I've been researching my Bassler ancestry and many other associated lines now for over 20 years. My work used to require some travel so I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit small town halls, county clerk offices and forgotten cemetaries to pick up little tid-bits over the years. My main Focus of course has always been the Basslers. My Bassler line is now ALL in Virginia. I've positively traced this Bassler line back to the early 1700's in Manheim Township, Lancaster, Pennsyvania. Prior to that, I have some theories but no proof. The story goes that they came from Germany, or passed through it, on their way from Basil, Switzerland. Prior to that, the name was Bosilier, from France in the 1500's. But I have yet to see any documentation on it.

In this country, these Bassler lines are intertwined with Matthews, Provance and Laird, and even further back, Twining in the 1600's in Massachusetts.

Other names you'll find in these pages are Bossler, Briner and Bryner, Province and Province and Hicks.
